Check the weather

Sounds stupid right? Well yes and no, it actually depends on what you do about it…Based on the forecast, the selection of your outfit could fall under 3 categories:

  • Sunny, no rain, or possible rain (always be cautious with the forecast): For that one, just bring your standard outfit. In this scenario having comfy sandals or shoes and your rain boots just in case is enough. Remember: don’t even think about it, take your rain boots no matter what, we have seen over and over again cases where the weather forecast was bright and sunny and a simple and quick shower of only 10 min even with bright sun coming back afterward creating a huge mess. When you are by yourself it doesn’t change anything but when there are thousands of people, walking, running, jumping, and dancing on the ground, the mud appears in seconds. We hope that this little paragraph is convincing enough for you to bring your wellies. Again remember it only takes 10 min.
  • Sunny, light rain: As explained above, even with little rain it will get muddy, therefore if they are forecasting rain even light, think of comfortable shoes and your rain boots. If it only rain once, only bringing your shoes should be enough (do not bring your best pair of shoes though…) and if it does continue to rain, well… wellies all the way. So same as above, bring both.
  • Rain or Heavy Rain And Cold: Wellies all the way, we were not so much concerned about the cold earlier because the sun was up, now if it’s cloudy and windy the cold could kick in. Therefore we recommend thick socks (have many pairs of socks listed below so your feet stay dry as much as possible throughout the whole festival. Having cold feet will kill all the enjoyment you had of being at the festival). Otherwise, tights are also great solutions as they dry fast and they do not take too much space if you decide to remove them.

The Best Outfits With Rain boots

Now that we have covered the fact that you should pack your wellies no matter the weather, let’s have a look at the best options you have in terms of outfits with rain boots.

If you are thinking wellies, it means you are thinking rain and it could mean that you are also thinking cold. We have a solution for you, the core of the approach relies on layering.

We will breakdown this part into 3 weather possibilities:

  • Possible Rain
  • Rain
  • Rain & Cold

Possible rain: Outfit breakdown

  1. Waterproof gear
  2. Light tops
  3. Overalls
  4. Shorts, Skirts
  5. Dresses

You can also choose to go with the classical Hunter.

For a more flexible version so you can keep a bit more agility we do recommend the Hunter Ankle Boots (might not be ideal if you are facing heavy rain and a ton of mud).

Light raincoat: You could ask “well why not a real coat instead”? The rain jacket is your best bet because with an actual coat as soon as you are too hot you will not know what to do with it and you will not be able to fold it away. We suggest you wear something warm enough so if it rains or if it gets too windy, a rain jacket will suffice, besides it is lighter and you can easily fold it. If you know for sure that it will rain pick a rain jacket, go with some nice colors so even if it does rain you will pop.

Rain:

If it rains but you are in hot temperature, besides the fact that you will need a raincoat and wellies you don’t want to wear too many clothes either. If those get wet and dirty, they will smell and will get really unconformable. Therefore only shorts or short dresses will be your best option as dirt and mud remove themselves way more easily on the skin than on any type of clothing. Below have a look at festival outfits when it’s raining.

Outfit breakdown:

  • Waterproof gear: Same ones as the above-cited + ponchos
  • Shorts, Skirts: Same ones as the above-cited.
  • Overalls: Same ones as the above-cited.
  • Dresses: We don’t recommend those for rain, they are starting to become too light for this type of weather
  • Light tops: Light tops still apply but you will need to think of an additional layer like jackets or bombers for instance
  • Jackets/Bombers

Rain & Cold:

When it gets cold the hack is to not double down on the heat or the thickness of clothing but rather on the waterproofing.

You do not want to feel too heavy anyway. As you will move, walk, jump and dance the heat will easily come, and having waterproof gear will keep the heat on you.

Of course the colder it gets, the thicker you want your apparel to be, but we are assuming here that the festival you will attend will be in Spring or Summer. (If not we recommend heavier stuff)

See below cold and raining festival outfits:

Cold hacks:

  • Tights are amazing or leggings and pants will do too (small and will dry fast)
  • A nice pair of relatively thick socks will do

Outfit breakdown:

  • Waterproof gear: Same ones as the above-cited + ponchos
  • Shorts, Skirts: same ones as the above-cited but pants would be a better option, otherwise, add tights or socks or leggins
  • Overalls: Different from the ones as the above-cited have a look below
  • Dresses: No Dress
  • Light tops: Light tops still apply but you will need to think of an additional layer like jackets or bombers for instance
  • Jackets/Bombers: Same ones as the above-cited.
  • Tights and Socks and Leggins
  • Hats

Tights and Socks for Rain & Cold

As a general rule, the colder the better off you will be (otherwise you sweat right out) with clothes that act as a second skin and that are as close to you as possible, so there is no fresh air between your skin and the apparel. Let’s start with the standards high socks. Very “cool” for many reasons, it will keep you warm and you can lower them at any time if you are getting hot from too much jumping and dancing.
