Going To A Rave Or A Festival Alone: Full Guide

Most people go to festivals and raves with friends, but what if you don’t have any available. Or what if your friends don’t want to go… Can even go to a rave or a festival alone?

So the short answer is, absolutely yes, going alone can be just as much fun or more sometimes. You will just need to prepare a bit more.

Many things have to be taken into account when it comes to going to a festival or raving solo, and even more so if you are a woman.

This is why we have broken down all the things you need to know and give you all the best tips so you can fully enjoy your rave going solo.

The power of going alone to a rave or a festival

So none of your friends are available, or it’s not their things?

Well, you are in for a treat, to say the least. Going alone to an event is a great experience.

It usually starts when no one from your group can go, and you simply refuse to miss an artist just because you are alone. That’s the attitude, you want to see an artist, just go!

It can be hard to get out there by yourself, but it is way better to go alone and have an amazing time than to sit at home and be bored or even to go with someone that does not want to be there…

It’s a no-brainer, so much so that we listed all the benefits of going alone to an event below, so you can fully appreciate your experience there.

The pros: Why Going Alone Can Be Better Than Going In Groups?

You can wander as you please: Real freedom

Going by yourself to an event gives you the ability to wander, you can leave whenever you want, take a break, change stage, go to the bathroom, go get water, etc… when you want, and as long as you want…

You will not have to worry about the rest of the group, and there is also no splitting the group if you don’t agree with the artist to see.

It will also remove all potential friend drama that you would have had to deal with to make sure you have a good time with your friends…(we have been there)

Furthermore, moving through the crowd becomes way easier and smoother, you can go to the very front or far at the back, or right in the middle of the crowd.

You decide where you want to go and when you want to go!

You can meet new people

By going alone you are much more open to meeting new people, it gives you the possibility even to join groups and make new friends.

By doing so, for future events in your area, two things can happen.

  1. You will find friends that will be more likely available for those kinds of events, so you will have a kind of new group that you can always go with.
  2. If you still want to experience the event by yourself, you can still do so. Just go alone, and then more often than not you will bump into those people, and you will get the best of both worlds. Which is being by yourself but actually knowing a few people there, in case you want to chat or be part of a group for a little while.

You can finally let loose

Sure, when you go to a rave, no one cares about what you do or how you behave to the music, except maybe your friends.

Since you don’t know anyone, it can be easier to really lose yourself, and dance how you like, letting your body take control without feeling awkward.

This is specifically true because if you go by yourself, no one knows you, this is why your mind will be more disposed to let loose and enjoy even more the moment.

Besides, no one can actually know you are alone, you could just be by yourself because your group did not follow you as they wanted to see another artist at that moment.

Or your group is actually there with you, but you are dancing your ass off, so much so, that people could think you are alone. So they will not pay attention to who is around you, and also because no one can know who is with whom…

It becomes YOUR experience

Check the line-up and decide which performer you want to see. The advantage of being alone is that you will be able to really focus on what you really like for once. And go see all the artists you actually planned to see.

Going to a rave or a festival by yourself really creates a whole different experience.

What usually happens is that you appreciate even more the space, you see the environment differently, in a sense, you experience more of the show because you create a personal and private connection to the moment you are living in.

Something will happen between you and the sound, it will create a profound and intimate relationship, a unique connection deeper than you will ever make with music.

At some point, experiencing it by yourself will create a really powerful feeling.

You will be living the moment in a deeper state and what often happens at that moment is that you will look around and tell yourself “life should always be this way.”

That is something that has happened many times, you become mindful of what is going on.

You see people being happy and dancing all around you, which creates a sense of peace and bliss that your body and your mind will forever remember.

Also, experiencing things like this does help you get more comfortable being alone and enjoying yourself.

Festivals and raves are one of the most solo-friendly activities out there, the focus is not on you

Even though it does sound counter-intuitive, it is actually true.

You can easily just get lost in the crowd and enjoy the music which feels really nice, you enter into the vibe and the energy, and you become part of the crowd whether you are alone or with a group.

Most of the focus is on the producer, the different stages, and the show.

There are a lot of distractions between the dancers, people doing poi spinning, gloving, the bars, funny activities, and the overall show.

Besides, it is quite easy to make friends as all the people around have at least one big thing in common, which is the same love for live music, especially within the subgenres.

You are not alone being alone

Knowing this, really helped some of us to go to raves or festivals by ourselves. But it is the truth, more people than you think are just like you going to their rave or festival alone.

It can actually be a lot of fun to meet another one like you and hang out together.

Of course, for those who just want to have an intimate experience with the event, this will not apply, but we know that for some people, knowing this helps.

Finally, going to a rave or a festival alone is cooler than going with a group

We know some people that think that going alone is lame, they are afraid that people will think they are losers for going alone, but this could not be further from the truth.

In a crowd or even within a group, it is really hard to know who are the hardcore true fans…

In a group that you don’t know, it is hard to tell who is the hardcore true fan that motivated the whole group.

Whereas the ones that came alone, by themselves, you know for sure, 100%, that they are hardcore true fans that really love the community, the artists and live music.

They are there, by themselves, to us, they really are the coolest!

Don’t get us wrong, we love going in groups, but we deeply respect people going alone, and more often than not we end up hanging out with them.

The cons: the things will not be able to do if you are alone

If you go alone, don’t take or drink anything to “enhance” the experience

We know that some people might disagree, but it is actually the best thing you can do to make sure you only have a good time.

Be responsible, know your limits, and don’t let yourself go, you won’t have your friend to take care of you.

No one is backing you up in case things go wrong, this is why you have to take care of yourself if you go alone.

You will not be able to share expenses.

Another advantage you lose going by yourself is that you will not be able to share a hotel, car or cab, or any types of fees that come into play when you go to an event.

Going Alone: General Tips

The list of tips below will work for both women and men, that being said we added a specific part for the ladies as there are a few extra things to keep in mind for them.

Does the event you are planning on going to have a friendly crowd?

First and foremost, what type of event is it? Most of them have good crowds, but you need to know beforehand what is the type of crowd.

If you go to any mainstream festivals or raves, the vast majority of people will be really nice to you.

Underground raves are a bit different for instance, while most of them have really kind crowds, an element that can have an impact on whether people there will be nice is if the rave takes place in a sketchy neighborhood.

So know where you are going.

Do not eat, drink or ingest anything (even water) from strangers

Yes, even if they look cool and perfectly innocent, do not eat or drink anything from them.

Even though you can for sure make friends, you will have to wait to really know the person before accepting anything.

Despite the fact that it is unlikely that something happens, you can never know if this night is a night where you are not so lucky.

Please be careful.

You are free, don’t hesitate to move to find a great spot

If you are in the middle of the crowd dancing and someone is giving you bad vibes, just move to another spot, so you can dance (or only stand) comfortably and enjoy the music.

Pretty basic but nonetheless true, if need be, just move to find a better area.

Don’t hesitate to take breaks

When you’re solo, you sometimes can forget yourself and push your limits. Listen to your body and take a break any time you need to.

That is the beauty of being by yourself, it gives you the ability to take a break without having to worry about losing your friends or feeling like you’re holding them back.

So if you need a breather, step out for some fresh air or find a place to sit down and rest. You’ll be able to rejoin the party refreshed and ready to dance the night away.

This can also be a good time to meet people, out of the crowd, with a little chiller vibe, you’d be surprised at how open people will be. (more on that here)

Going Alone As A Gal Tips

We are sorry ladies, but this is the truth, for obvious reasons you will have to be extra careful if you go alone to an event, more than guys.

Again, this is unfortunate that this is the case, but it is what it is.

Now, don’t get us wrong, you can go by yourself with no problem, just be mindful of our following advice.

Dress more conservatively

That is not cool, we know, but that will totally help limit the number of annoying people.

If you’re a woman who likes to go to parties and raves on your own, it’s important to consider the way that you dress.

Many women choose to wear revealing or skin-tight outfits when they go out to raves or festivals, but this can actually make them more susceptible to annoying comments or advances from creepy or predatory guys.

By wearing more modest clothing, you are much less likely to draw unwanted attention from unwanted sources.

Not only will this help keep your night free from hassle and hassle, but it can also make it easier for you to focus on having a good time and meeting new people in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Spot security guards and talk to them

If you’re a woman attending a rave alone, it’s important to take some precautions to ensure your safety. First, familiarize yourself with the layout of the venue and locate the security guards.

Then, introduce yourself to a few of the guards and let them know that you’re attending the event alone. This way, if anything happens, you’ll know where to find help.

And the guards will be on the lookout for you and be able to provide assistance immediately if needed. By taking these simple steps, you can help ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable experience at the rave.

Long walks in the city before and after the event

Long walks through the city, especially before and after the event, can put you at risk.

To mitigate these dangers, we recommend that you stay close to the venue and avoid areas where you may be isolated or outside of other people’s sightlines.

Additionally, we advise against wandering around alone for extended periods of time away from the festival grounds.

By taking simple precautions like these and staying aware of your surroundings at all times, you can enjoy your festival or rave experience without worry.

You will get hit on

That’s how it is, you will get hit on, and you need to know what to do if anyone starts annoying you.

If you feel unsafe due to the presence of someone around you, it is important to take action and reach out to the people around you and let them know what is going on.

A quick word or two can make all the difference, it can be just one person, a couple, or even a group, and they will protect you from any harassment or unwanted attention.

But if you can, the best option would be to go directly to safety guards.

Reach out to them and explain the situation and depending on how bad the situation is they could go find the guy and put him out of the event.

Because they know that if it is not you, it could be some other girl.

We have experienced this situation at various festivals and gatherings, and we have found that it is crucial to act quickly if you want to feel safe and secure.

Every time we see someone that we think is in need of help, we always ask if they need any help or assistance with a simple “are you ok?”.

And if that is the case, we just intervene by telling the girl to go to the other side of our group, so we are between her and the threat, it’s just that easy.

Ultimately, what matters most when attending a festival or a rave alone is having the confidence and courage to reach out for help when you need it. With the support of the larger community surrounding you, there is no reason why anyone should ever feel unsafe at a festival or a rave.

So if this happens, remember that there are always people ready and willing to help you.

We hope that this article did help you, we want you to have the best experience possible by yourself. It can really be a life-changing experience, the best kind!

Enjoy your rave or festival and take care!

Be safe!
