When most people think of raves, the first thing that comes to mind is electronic dance music (EDM).
And while it is true that EDM is a big part of rave culture, there is so much more to it than just the music.
In fact, ravers come from all walks of life and hold a range of different beliefs and values. So why do people rave?
What makes them so special? Why do people rave?
In a nutshell: Raves are not necessarily for everybody, even though everyone is welcome, but it gives people the ability to unite around the same love and passion for live music.
It also gives the ability for people to enter a powerful, unique, and crafted world where they can express themselves without judgment, far away from their daily problems.
This exceptional environment gives them a special experience to live, bond with friends, or solo while allowing them to dress any way they want.
It is one of the best ways we have found as a modern society to reveal and bring out the humanity in people.
In this post, we will explore and break down in more depth the psychology behind raves and why people love them so much.
To answer this question, this post breaks down in 9 reasons. People love raves because:
- They love music
- They can be themselves without judgment
- They can escape their everyday problems
- Of the show, the lights, fireworks
- Of friend’s bonding
- Of the freedom to wear anything they want
- They share the same passion
- Of the culture
- It helps bring people together
People love raves because they love music
Music is at the core of raves. Without music, there are no raves.
Whether it is loud, pulsing techno, DNB, Dubstep, House, Hardcore, and other styles or soothing ambient sounds, raves are known for their amazing soundtracks that keep ravers on their feet all night long.
Raves often feature talented DJs who have spent years working on their craft, perfecting every beat, and managing to create a unique performance.
For music lovers around the world, raves are the ultimate way to experience some of the best sounds in the world. Whether you are into upbeat drum ‘n’ bass riffs or chilled-out dubstep beats, raves have something for everyone.
Besides, you will not experience the same music the same way whether you are listening through your headphones, speakers, or huge rave sound systems. Something does happen when the music is live, you can see people being hit by the sound, and you can feel the energy of the music spreading everywhere.
People there are living the music, they connect with every beat and let their minds feel the moment.
People love raves because they can be themselves without judgment
People love raves because they offer a safe space where you can let go, have fun, and dance without judgment.
Freed from the pressures of social norms and expectations, you can truly be yourself and just express yourself through your style, your philosophy, and your moves.
You do you, and just be yourself, whether you shuffle along to the beat, just wave your arms and head, or simply stay put, no one care or will make you feel self-conscious.
In addition, raves provide a release from the stresses of daily life, allowing you to dance out your worries and emerge feeling refreshed and rejuvenated (more on that below).
So if you are looking for a place that celebrates freedom of expression and supports art in all its forms, nothing beats a rave.
After all, no one cares what you do or if you dance or not as long as you are having fun!
People love raves because they can escape their everyday problems
When you enter a rave, it feels like you’re entering a new world. The music is pumping, the lights are flashing, and everyone around you is smiling and dancing.
It’s like something magical happens when you step through the door – all your worries and stress disappear, and you’re free to just enjoy yourself.
Raves provide a way to escape your everyday problems and enter a world of pure fun and joy.
Whether you’re dancing your heart out or chatting with new friends, raves are the perfect place to let loose and have a good time.
For ravers, raves can be compared to a valve that is there to let the pressure of your everyday world go, some would argue that it almost works as a “reset button” cleaning all the unused and useless cache.
All the stress, the pressure, and the worries are just gone when you enter a rave, it invites you and gives you the ability to let yourself go.
People love raves because of the show, the lights, fireworks
People love raves because they offer an incredible experience unlike anything else.
With dazzling lights and fireworks, artists pouring their hearts and souls into their performances, and a truly immersive atmosphere that envelops you in sound and sensation, raves offer a truly powerful aesthetic experience.
Whether you are grooving to the music or simply sitting back to admire all this vibrant performance has to offer, there is nothing quite like a rave for fully immersing yourself in the world of performance art.
This does depend on the raves you will go to, not to mention underground raves, but all promoters and producers do their best, so you have the best experience possible.
Of course, some will be better than others, but more often than not you really feel that you are part of the entertainment. The experience and the music are so immersive that you can’t help but feel 100% of the show.
People love raves because of friend’s bonding
Raves provide a unique environment to create a special bond with your friends.
Raves are a unique experience, they are unique in a sense that you will not feel anything like it anywhere else, and also each time you will rave will be different.
And it is because of this uniqueness, this special experience, that you will bond in a certain way with the people you will go raving with.
Raves were never meant to be told or explained, they are meant to be lived. This is why when you go with a friend only he or she can know what you mean when you talk about it, the none ravers will not get it. (Well, sure they can probably get a good 15%, but that’s about it)
The bond with your friends is created because you are sharing a unique moment, in a unique setting, for a limited time only.
And because everyone is there at the same moment, they can relate in a really deep way.
That is why raves create between friends a deep and meaningful connection that will never be forgotten.
People love raves because of the freedom to wear anything they want
Rave doesn’t have dress codes, anyone who will tell you otherwise does not understand the culture. You can absolutely do and wear anything you want.
This is why raves are amazing opportunities for people to be creative with their clothing and express themselves through their style.
It is a chance to let go of all the boundaries and show the world who you really are.
As we said, there are no rules when it comes to what you can wear to a rave, which is part of what makes them so unique and fun.
While there might be heavy tendencies, yes, but there are no rules. So you can be as bold or as reserved as you want, and there’s always something new and exciting to try.
It’s a great way to step outside of your comfort zone and explore different fashion options.
Whether you’re wearing something that you created yourself or purchased from a store, raves provide a platform for creativity and self-expression.
It used to be only handmade or handcrafted outfits, but this is not the norm anymore, whatever you choose to do it will be perfect and accepted.
People love raves because they share the same passion
People love raves because they are a chance to come together with others who share the same passion for music and dance.
Whether you are dancing under the glow of colorful lights or simply vibing out in the crowd, there is a sense of unity and camaraderie that draws people to rave time and time again.
Furthermore, many people find that there is a deeper spiritual connection at raves, as they feel completely immersed in the moment, lost in the energy and intensity of the music playing all around them.
And finally, there is something undeniably magical about sharing such an intensely joyful experience with thousands of other people.
Knowing that you are all experiencing the same thing, becoming united in this love for music, and discovering what it truly means to be human. (more on that below)
From start to finish, raves allow us to connect with each other on a deeper level and celebrate life together through dancing and shared experiences.
That is why people love raves – because there is truly nothing like them on earth.
People love raves because of the culture
People love raves because they offer a unique and exciting community experience unlike anything else.
At raves, you are surrounded by people who are all there for the same thing: to have fun and celebrate peace, love, unity, and respect.
The rave culture is centered around PLUR (specifically in the US), which encourages everyone to be kind and accepting of others.
This makes for a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.
In addition, the rave scene is known for its incredible energy and atmosphere, which is in part due to the wide range of people that attend these events.
Despite these differences, everyone comes together and enjoys themselves as one big family under the glow of flashing lights and pounding bass lines.
So for the people that are looking for an electrifying night out full of peace, love, unity, respect, and wicked good vibes, raves are the answer!
Note: Not all people are necessarily into PLUR though. At some raves, we came across people who told us were not really into the PLUR culture.
We have found that those people are either new to the scene or have been let down one way or another.
Even though this is rare, the PLUR culture is so strong that they will eventually get it and understand how it works and why it works. But know that the vast majority does have the peace, love, unity, and respect mentality.
People love raves because it helps bring people together
In a world that can often feel individualistic and cold, raves provide a chance for people to come together and celebrate the fact that we all need human warmth.
In a world that feels increasingly individualistic, it is actually no wonder that people are drawn to raves.
In a society that is obsessed with status and material possessions, raves provide a welcome respite.
During one event, people can come together and celebrate their shared love of music and dance.
Raves provide a sense of community that is often lacking in modern life. In a time of global warfare and political division, it’s more important than ever to come together and a balance with love and unity.
For many, this is an important opportunity to connect with others and feel part of something larger.
It can be easy to forget that we are all human beings with the same needs and desires, but raves remind us of our shared humanity.
In a world that can often seem like it’s falling apart, raves provide a much-needed respite and reminder that we are all in this together.
At its best, rave culture brings people together regardless of race, gender, or creed. It’s a reminder that, despite our differences, we are all united by our love of music and dance.
As you can see, many things are at play when it comes to raves. A lot of all the benefits cited above can be also found in festivals, for instance, but not as much.
Each rave, whether it is a massive or an underground rave, will have some aspect that will be more present than others, but they will all be there.
As you understand now, raves at their core are electronic music.
And from there, they manage to gather people in one of the best ways possible, bringing out our humanity, connection to one another, and our love for the music and people.
Some even argue that is it our modern version of the dance around the campfire. Whether this is true or not, it does a great thing for people and succeeds to unite us all around music.
